Er, obsession, really. I race bikes. (Um, yeah, bicycles.) So, I’ve always thought that in criterium racing a 20 second gap was defining. Seems like when you’re off the front of the pack and you hit that mark, it’s the golden countdown until the finish. Stay steady and you’re on the podium (assuming there are five or less in the break).

Outside of racing, I’m not sure there’s much meaning for a 20 second gap - other than that it feels like the amount of time I have between all the things I juggle: work, training, parenting, painting, racing, traveling…you get the picture. But, I once took a week off and did nothing (except work and parenting) and it was torture. I’m not happy unless I’m running around with my head cut off. And, no, not literally. But it’s a fine line I’m always dancing around.

So, this site is a collection of work I do outside my day job. Which is a good one. That keeps me busy, and has, over the last decade honed my skills at understanding and distilling complicated information. It’s important to have a designer that “gets it.” I think I do, but I’m me. And while I might not be the best designer you ever saw and am often too busy to take on work, when I do take on work, I listen. And any designer you ever hire should do that one thing really well.

Now, what were you saying?

20 second gap

Photo
